New Eagles Coaching Staff Announced
Last week the Eagles announced new coach Nick Sirianni’s coaching staff and it was comprised of many young head coaches.

What is interesting is that former coach Doug Pederson apparently had a difference of opinion with management on selecting a coaching staff.

Pederson, but all accounts, wanted more authority to select his staff.

In this new staff, it appears that Sirianni had plenty of authority to pick his own staff, with many coaches having worked with him previously.

Only two coaches from Pederson’s staff were retained from the main coaching positions – offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland and receivers coach Aaron Moorehead.

Sirianni, the former offensive coordinator of the Indianapolis Colts and before that an assistant for five seasons with the Los Angeles/San Diego Chargers staff. He worked with several of his new hires at these two places.

Here is a look at the staff:

Michael Clay, Special Teams Coordinator. Clay served as the Eagles assistant special teams coach in 2015 and defensive quality control coach in 2014. He has been with the San Francisco 49ers the past five years, including four as assistant special teams coach. He was an all-Pac-12 linebacker at Oregon

Jonathan Gannon, Defensive Coordinator. Gannon spent the last three as defensive backs/cornerbacks coach with the Colts. • Prior to his stint with the Colts, Gannon was the assistant defensive backs/quality control coach for the Minnesota Vikings from 2014-17. He also worked in the personnel department with the then, St. Louis Rams. He was a defensive back at Louisville.

Shane Steichen, Offensive Coordinator. He spent the last seven seasons with the San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers, working with Sirianni before he left for the Colts. Last season Steichen was offensive coordinator of the Chargers. The four years prior to last season he was the quarterbacks coach.

Jemal Singleton, Running Backs/Assistant Head Coach. He was the running backs coach the last two years for the Cincinnati Bengals and also coached running backs in Oakland and Indianapolis. As a player he was a two-time captain at Air Force.

Kevin Patullo, Passing Game Coordinator. He coached the last three years with Sirianni at Indianapolis, where last year he was the Colts pass game specialist after being the wide receivers coach the previous two years. He was also a quarterbacks coach with the New York Jets in 2015.

Jeff Stoutland, Run Game Coordinator/Offensive Line. This will be Stoutland’s ninth season with the Eagles and he has earned the reputation as among the top offensive line coaches in the NFL. He was hired from Alabama where he worked as offensive line coach there.

Brian Johnson, Quarterbacks. This is Johnson’s first year in the NFL. He was the offensive coordinator at the University of Florida this past season and was quarterbacks coach the previous two years. He also coached at Mississippi State and his alma mater Utah.

Jason Michael, Tight Ends. The past two years Michael was tight ends coach with the Colts. He is entering his 16th season in the NFL and served as offensive coordinator for the Tennessee Titans for two years.

Aaron Moorehead, Wide Receivers. Moorehead returns for his second season with the Eagles. He was a receiver for the Indianapolis Colts from 2003-2007 and was a college coach for four programs before coming to the NFL with the Eagles before the 2020 season.

Nick Rallis, Linebackers. Rallis got his first NFL experience with the Minnesota Vikings, where for the previous three seasons he was defensive quality control/assistant linebackers coach. He is a former linebacker for the University of Minnesota.

Tracy Rocker, Defensive Line. Rocker returns to the NFL after serving as defensive line coach for the Tennessee Titans in 2011-2013. He was among the greatest defensive linemen in Auburn history and spent two seasons in the NFL. Rocker has coached at several colleges, most recently South Carolina.

Dennard Wilson, Defensive Back. A former defensive back at the University of Maryland, Wilson spent the last four seasons coaching defensive backs for the New York Jets. He coached five seasons with the Los Angeles/St. Louis Rams and spent four years as a pro scout for the Chicago Bears.
