Part II: South Jersey Games of the Week

Cherry Hill West (2-1) at Seneca (1-1), Friday ,7 pm.
West, which went 1-9 last season, is vastly improved. In handing Mainland its first loss in a 21-14 decision last week, sophomore quarterback Nick Arcaroli completed 21 of 29 for 159 yards and one TD. A win would do wonders for the Lions South Jersey Group 4 playoff chances. Seneca hopes to be in the Group 3 playoff picture. The Golden Eagles have averaged 33 points in their first two games. Junior Marlin Jasinski has thrown for 267 yards and five touchdowns. Senior Kaden Hastie has six receptions for 144 yards and two touchdowns.

Winslow Twp. (2-1) at Highland (3-0), Friday, 7 pm.  
After a 5-6 season and a playoff win last year, Highland appears to be taking that next step. The Tartans have one of the top running backs in South Jersey in sophomore Johnny Martin, who has rushed for 514 yards (7.1 avg.) and five touchdowns. The Tartans are coming off a 30-0 win over Oakcrest. Winslow Township has won two in a row since an opening 40-22 loss to powerful Woodrow Wilson. Last week senior quarterback Prince-dru Bey threw five touchdown passes in a 34-14 win over Cherokee, the first-ever victory over the Chiefs in school history.

Rancocas Valley (2-1) at Cherokee (0-2), Friday, 7 pm.
Rancocas Valley bounced back from a 17-6 loss to Williamstown to defeat Trenton, 34-21. Cherokee lost a tough opener to Shawnee, 21-14, but then fell last week to Winslow Township’s air show, 34-14. With Williamstown and St. Augustine still on the schedule, Cherokee likely needs to win this week to stay in realistic playoff contention. The same could be said for Rancocas Valley.

Collingswood (2-1) at Deptford (2-0), Friday 7 pm.
Collingswood bounced back from a 38-0 loss to West Deptford to beat Bordentown, 49-21 last week. Deptford could match its win total of last year with a victory over the Panthers. Senior Khi’on Smith has rushed for 303 yards (8.0 avg.) and three touchdowns to lead the Spartans attack. Both teams are contending for playoff berths, Collingswood in Group 2 and Deptford in Group 3.

Audubon (0-3) at Haddon Heights (0-2), Saturday, 11 am.
Forget the records, this is a great local rivalry with the schools minutes apart. Audubon has played much better than its record indicates. Led by QB Ethan Martin, Audubon has been in every game this season, never losing by more than two touchdowns. Haddon Heights has had a difficult opening schedule with losses to Paulsboro and Sterling. The Garnets will also be looking for revenge after Audubon’s 26-14 win last year. Junior receiver T’Sean Pressley is a big-play threat. He has nine receptions for 172 yards and two touchdowns.

Woodrow Wilson (3-0) at Cedar Creek (2-1), Saturday, 1 pm.
Cedar Creek had a nice opening win, 20-14 against Willingboro, then lost to fellow Group 2 contender Camden, 20-2, before rebounding with last week’s 41-6 victory over Absegami. Wilson hasn’t been tested, having beaten Winslow Township, Camden Catholic and Frankford, PA by a combined 138-41 margin. QB Nick Kargman has thrown for 1,059 yards and 16 TDs in three games.
